MakazhanAlpamys/Soup

Repository · seen by GitHub, HackerNews

Fine tunes a large language model from a single YAML file, with no SSH into a training box and no framework configuration to assemble. It streams layers rather than loading the whole model, which is what lets an 8 billion parameter model train on a laptop GPU with 4 GB of memory. Distributed on PyPI as soup-cli, so installs are countable separately from stars.

Flagged 10 August 2026 · 430 → 495 stars · +15.1%
Signal

68 open issues against 430 stars is a 16% ratio, five times what a young repo usually carries, and forks are up 8.5% against 4.9% star growth. The people arriving are running it and hitting walls rather than bookmarking it.

02Day 2

palamim/starboard

A macOS terminal that sits permanently beside the Dock instead of appearing on a hotkey. It stays on screen across every Space, including over full screen apps, and never takes focus from whatever you are working in. Inside it is a real login shell, so directory, history and state carry between commands rather than each one starting fresh. The bet is that a terminal you glance at gets used differently from one you summon.

Flagged 10 August 2026 · 144 → 378 stars · +162.5%
Signal

Stars 125 to 144, up 15.2%, and forks 4 to 6. A terminal pinned beside the Dock is a narrow idea with an obvious audience, and the fork ratio says some of them are already changing it. Two days since the last push.

03Day 3

t8y2/dbx

Repository · seen by GitHub, Homebrew, npm / PyPI

A desktop database client that speaks to more than 70 systems, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Redis, MongoDB, DuckDB and SQL Server among them, in a 20 MB download. The same build ships as a desktop app, a Docker image and a command line tool, with an AI assistant and an MCP server included. Most clients of this scope are hundreds of megabytes, so the size is the claim being made.

Flagged 5 August 2026 · 13,242 → 27,594 stars · +108.4%
Signal

Third appearance. 13,242 stars with 1,344 forks is one fork per ten stars, where most repos manage one in fifty, and the ratio has held for a week rather than spiking and fading. Homebrew installs are the number to watch, because a package manager install puts it on a machine.

How to read this

Method

Every riser shows the earlier and latest reading. Count-based signals also show their percentage change. Rankings show the number of positions climbed from the earlier position to the latest one; a lower position is better.

Funding rounds show disclosed amounts and targets. Company rank movement shows a third-party 90-day momentum signal, current position and observation date. Archived briefings preserve each day’s published signals and follow-ups.
